9 April: Ed Gaffney '87 stopped by for lunch and a tour of the new gymnasium. He has been working in Singapore, opening the new Brewerkz on Bukit Timah Road. Ed's girlfriend is studying at INSEAD, and the couple hopes to Singapore after she finishes her masters. I caught up with Ed before he went back to the United States for a month to manage his companies in Akron, Ohio:
Rubber City Clothing and
MetroSwag.
29 April: Ee Chien Chua '07 is back in Singapore a bit eariler than the rest of the returning freshmen in college. Ee Chien has just finished his first year at Brigham Young University, where he is studying public relations and psychology. BYU does not have a spring break, which is why they dismiss for the summer earlier than most schools.
Instead of returning to BYU in the fall, Ee Chien will start his two year church mission project here in Singapore on June 2nd. Most students start this project before their sophomore year, deferring enrollment until after the two year project is finished. Ee Chien's mission is unusual, because he has been asked to serve his mission in his hometown of Singapore. He is looking forward to catching up with his SAS friends and travelling to Thailand and Japan before the mission begins.
While on campus, he was able to visit with Mr. Adams and Mr. Welsh. After visiting the alumni office, Ee Chien was on his way to Mrs. Devens' room to sing with the choir, something he had enjoyed for three years at SAS.
