Lynda Scott, Current Faculty
On October 25th,  kindergarten teacher Lynda Scott will compete in the XTERRA World Championships in Maui, Hawaii.  In June 2009, Lynda qualified for the World Championships by winning the inaugural XTERRA Malaysia. You can read more about Lynda's race in June here. Lynda is pictured holding her trophy in Kuantan with fellow winner Fraser Morrison, left.

XTERRA Maui is the world’s premier off-road triathlon, combining a 1.5-kilometer (1 mile) ocean swim, a 32-kilometer (20-mile) mountain bike that climbs 3,000 feet up and down the lower slopes of the Haleakala volcano, and a 12-kilometer (7.5-mile) trail run that traverses lava rock, forest trails, and beach sand.

A sold-out field of 550 racers including 75 professionals and 450 amateurs representing 23 countries will join Lynda in this race.  Lynda will be one of only 150 women selected to compete in this event. Top pros finish in roughly two-and-a-half hours; Lynda is aiming for under 4 hours

Good luck Lynda!

UPDATE: Lynda reported back to us on Wednesday, October 28:

"Thanks for that!  Wow, what a tough race.  Harder than anything I have ever done.  One and a half hours of climbing to start the bike course – my training just didn’t prepare me for that!  How can you train for that in Singapore???!!!

Anyway, I went into the race not feeling great – caught a cold on the plane.  I had a great swim, came in at just over 25 mins (26:28 on the transition timing mat I think).  Struggled on the bike, fell and landed on a rock so now have rib pain, possible cracked rib but I actually think just bruised.  Very difficult bike course!  Good run though.  Finished in 4 hours 12 minutes, came 6th in my age group so even though I am a little disappointed, I guess 6thin the world is actually not too bad!

Now I get to rest for a couple of days and eat what I want…then back into it to prepare for the Phuket Triathlon in December!"
