November 2008 Visitors
November 10, 2008: Don Kabel '77 dropped by today. He's been working in Brunei, where he works in the oil industry on a one-month on, one-month off schedule. He's taking a break before heading back to his boat in early December.

Don has three grown children who live in Canada, and he's looking forward to bringing them back to Singapore in March for a family vacation. The family had visited Singapore a few years ago, but had not visited the Woodlands campus, so Don enjoyed seeing the campus and visiting with several familiar faces, including Linda Clarke, whose husband Ken taught Don's woodshop class in high school, and Jim Baker, who was Don's coach for cross country. Hopefully Don will have time to bring his kids to SAS during their short stopover in March.

Don stays in touch with several classmates, many of whom went into the oil industry as well. He stayed in Singapore after graduation until 1986, when he moved to Alberta, Canada. He began to travel with work again in the mid-90s, when he worked in the middle east and Indonesia.  He has been using this Malay language skills since his time in Mr. Chegu's Malay class, and remembers taking a math class with Mr. Abraham and a science class with Mrs. Abraham.

We stopped by Mr. Ho's high school cafeteria, where we said hello to Mr. Ho and his staff. Mr. Ho's father was the Mr. Ho that Don remembered from eating chicken curry and red beans and rice at King's Road. Don has been uploading great photos onto the alumni website, and plans to upload older photos from high school soon. He is also interested in submitting stories to the alumni magazine. We're looking forward to it! Thanks for visiting Don!

November 12, 2008: The lovely Clarissa Cavalheiro '04 stopped by today. She was on her way home after giving a presentation to Mr. Paul Griffin's class about her work in photojournalism. Clarissa has recently graduated from Griffith University in Australia, and has returned to Singapore to job hunt. This summer she travelled for a few months and picked up freelancing work in both Brazil and Singapore. She has caught up with several SAS alums since returning to Singapore, where her family still lives, and she looks forward to meeting up with everyone at the Young Alumni Reunion on December 17th.
